Medical Laboratory Technologist

JOB DESCRIPTION


FUNCTIONAL ROLE:

Aids in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of disease through lab Testing. Follows the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting and maintain records of patient results. Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens. Adhere to Laboratory's quality control policies. Follow the laboratory's policies acceptable levels of performance. Capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance and/or reporting of test results. Correct the problem to notify the appropriate supervisor. Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications. Performs laboratory tests pursuant to established and approved protocols requiring the exercise of the independent judgment.


REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or Physical science, and/or Clinical Laboratory Technologist license from NY State Department of Education, BA or MS in the Laboratory Health Care preferred.
  • Meets and maintains core competencies.
  • Basic computer skills. Ability to read, write and communicate effectively using the English Language.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for operating Chemistry / Immunology/ Hematology analyzer and manual test performance. Maintenance, daily QC calibration, patient specimen testing, instrument trouble shooting and CAP PT testing.
  • Responsible for maintenance of the following: centrifuges, dry bath, incubators, pipettes, temperature logs, and bench top decontaminations daily.
  • Responsible for Calibration verification/ Linearity for all quantitative tests every six months.
  • Responsible for reagent lot-to lot correlation, validation of reagents and assayed QC material or establishing QC interval.
  • Responsible for ordering reagents and keeping the reagent inventory log.
  • Responsible for proper dating and storage of reagents.
  • Responsible for communicating critical values to physicians.
  • Responsible for reviewing QC and troubleshooting QC failures. Reviewing monthly QC L-J charts.
