Position Summary:

Hudson River HealthCare (“HRHCare”) is a Federally Qualified, Non-Profit Health Center serving communities in Suffolk, Rockland, Orange, Dutchess, Ulster, Sullivan, Columbia and Westchester County. HRHCare is currently seeking a full-time Benefits Manager to join our team in Manhattan.

The Benefits Manager will assist the Director of Benefits and HRIS with the administration of the employee benefits programs. This position is responsible for maintaining, reporting and communicating employee data and organizational information for the medical, dental, life, disability, ancillary plans, retirement programs, paid time off (PTO) program, workers’ compensation and leave management. The Benefits Manager will manage a team of HR/Benefits Professionals. Serve as the point of contact for employees and plan vendors responding to inquiries in a timely manner.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of a Benefits Manager:

  • Manage the administration of medical, dental, life, disability, ancillary benefits plans, retirement plans (403b), (401k), workers’ compensation, paid time off (PTO) program and leave programs including FMLA.
  • Communicate timely and accurately with employees regarding benefits inquiries, such as plan information, employee data and claims and participation issues. 
  • Maintains benefit plan processes, procedures, documentation and assuring plans are in compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
  • Manage a team of HR/Benefits Professionals by providing guidance, coaching and performance management. Serving as a super-user for the benefits team providing training to the team and provide technical support to end-users, etc. 
  • Interact with brokers, carriers and service providers to achieve service level expectations including employee service, problem resolution, billing management and system maintenance.
  • Participate in benefits communication at New Employee Orientation benefits enrollment and annual Open Enrollment meetings when necessary and requested.
  • Assist with annual government filings (5500) for the health and welfare and retirement programs, ensuring accurate and timely reporting as required by law. 
  • Responsible for managing, auditing and payment of monthly bills, and managing related carrier census files.
  • Manage non-discrimination testing of section 125 programs.
  • Responsible for managing the PTO program ensuring correct position accruals and utilization.
  • Ensure that the HRIS system design continues to meet benefit plan requirements, while supporting maintenance of the system as it relates to benefits administration.
  • Provide regular reports and statistics on benefit plan participation, expenses and utilization.
  • Maintains and communicates knowledge of benefit related DOL, ERISA, IRS regulations.
  • Ensuring employee data is managed and maintained confidentially and securely in the HRIS system.
  • Assist with ad hoc projects, reports, other tasks and duties as assigned.

Minimum Education Requirement: Bachelor's degree

Preferred Education Requirement: Master's degree

Minimum Work-Related Experience: 5- 8 years

Preferred Certifications: SPHR or PHR and/ or CEBS
