Psychiatrist

Part-time 16-20 hrs/week

Shirley (Suffolk County) Outpatient Behavioral Health

Hudson River HealthCare (“HRHCare”) is a Federally Qualified, Non-Profit Health Center serving communities in Suffolk, Rockland, Orange, Dutchess, Ulster, Sullivan, Columbia and Westchester County.

A Psychiatrist diagnoses and treats patients in his/her specialty area; collaboration and supervision of nurse practitioners and physician’s assistants; participation in planning and developing health care services in his/her specialties, treatment of conditions and illnesses within the scope of the physician’s specialty, referral and follow-up of patients when indicated, participation in after-hours coverage to insure 24-hour availability of care for Center patients.  Performs job duties in compliance with systems and job specific standards. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  •  Interviews, diagnoses and evaluates patients referred for psychiatric assessment 
  •  Oversees treatment by all mental health clinical 
  •  Participate as a team member in conferences concerned with diagnosis and treatment planning 
  •  Writes reports and documentation as required 
  •  Consults with other mental health and medical provider staff regarding treatment patients 
  •  Prescribes psychotropic medication as needed and monitors it effectiveness 
  •  Completes monthly program reports 
  •  Provides in-service training to professional and paraprofessional staff 
  •  Reviews case records to monitor quality of care 
  •  Must demonstrate knowledge and skill necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served 
  •  Must demonstrate knowledge of the principals of growth and development over the life span 
  •  Must be able to identify and categorize each patient’s age-specific grouping of needs, such as those for infant, adolescent, or geriatric patients 
  •  Must be familiar with the process of addiction 

Minimum Education Requirement:   

Doctorate Degree 

Minimum Work Related Experience: 

2-4 years 

Preferred Work Related Experience: 

5-8 years 

Licensure/ Certification/ Registration Requirement: 

Board certified or eligible in Psychiatry 

License to practice medicine in New York State
